Home Sweet Holmfirth
May 24, 2010
Our Philip Larkin film has been entered in competition at the Holmfirth Film Festival.
The short film “Here”, which is based on Philip Larkin’s poem of the same name and features Sir Tom Courtenay, has been entered in the Best Short Film category. It’s one of 6 films selected by the judges from a field of over 300 from right around the world and will be shown on Tuesday night in the town’s historic Picturedrome Cinema.
As well as screening new and classic films the festival also features guests Barry Norman and David Peace (The Damned Utd, Red Riding) and runs until this Saturday.
“Here” (which you can view above) was created to promote Larkin25, a 6-month long series of events taking place in Hull and East Yorkshire commemorating the 25th anniversary of Larkin’s death. Events start next month and culminate in December with the unveiling of a statue of the poet in Hull city centre.
