Uncle Tom Courtenay And All
February 01, 2010
Friday saw us working with a true acting legend.
Sir Tom Courtenay, Oscar nominated for Dr Zhivago and The Dresser, feted for innumerable stage productions and the star of one of the greatest British films of all time – Billy Liar, gave us a read of Philip Larkin’s poem “Here” for use in our upcoming short film for Larkin25.
Hull-born Sir Tom agreed to offer his services for the film after we sent him a treatment. A ridiculously excited Dave Lee met him in a Soho studio to supervise the read and talk about Hessle Road (where they were both born).

The finished film will be used to promote the Larkin25 events which take place around Hull and East Yorkshire over the next year. Have a look at the related ‘Invest in Hull’ film we made last year for Hull Forward (above) – it’s nothing like the film we’re making but is, at least, geographically similar.
